“How much does YouTube pay for 1,000 views?” has no single answer, and anyone who gives you one number is guessing. Two channels can have the same views and one earns four times as much. The reason is a figure called RPM, and what drives it is who watches, what they watch and when. This guide explains the terms, shows the arithmetic, and tells you where to find your real number.
The calculation
Same views, four times the spread. This is why “views to money” tables found online disagree with each other.
CPM and RPM are not the same
- Cost per 1,000 ad impressions
- Before YouTube takes its share
- Counts only views that showed an ad
- Revenue per 1,000 views of your videos
- After YouTube’s share is taken out
- Counts every view, including those with no ad
RPM is lower than CPM, but it is the number that predicts your income, because it is already net and spread over all your views.
YouTube shares ad revenue with creators, and the creator’s portion for long videos is the larger part. Shorts use a different pool and usually pay less per view. Because RPM is calculated on all views, a video with many views that did not show an ad has a lower RPM than its CPM would suggest.
Why RPM differs so much between channels
None of these is a rule, and all of them change. That is why the only reliable RPM is your own.
- Shorts and long videos earn differently. Track them separately when you can.
- One viral video can change your month. An unusual audience mix can raise or lower RPM for that period.
- RPM falls and rises. Compare several months, not one.
Why not every view earns
The estimator has a “monetized share” box for a reason. Views that came from sources or videos that do not carry ads, or from viewers who skip or block ads, do not add the same revenue. If you do not know your share, start at 100 percent and then lower it to match what YouTube Studio shows as monetized playbacks.
The estimator multiplies views by the monetized share first, then by RPM per thousand.
When can you earn at all?
Ad revenue is available through the YouTube Partner Program. YouTube has published eligibility rules based on subscribers and either public watch hours or Shorts views, with a lower first tier for fan-funding features. These requirements and the countries they apply to have changed over time, so read the current rules in YouTube Studio under Earn before you plan around them.
- Check the thresholds currently shown for your channel.
- Follow the channel and content policies. Reused, copied or repetitive content can be refused.
- Apply, and wait for the review.
- Link a payment account, and expect a payout only after you reach the minimum balance.
From estimate to reality
- Open YouTube Studio, then Analytics, then Revenue.
- Read the RPM for the last 28 days and for the last 90 days.
- Put that number into the estimator with your expected views for next month.
- Run a low case (RPM 30 percent lower), a middle case and a high case.
- Treat the middle number as a plan and the low number as your safe budget.

Questions people ask
How much does YouTube pay per 1,000 views in India?
It varies with topic, audience and season. Many Indian channels see an RPM of a few tens of rupees up to over a hundred, but your own RPM in YouTube Studio is the only number that applies to you.
YouTube 1000 views ke kitne paise deta hai?
Koi fixed rate nahi hai. Yeh aapke RPM par depend karta hai. Jaise 60 rupaye RPM par 1 lakh views ke lagbhag 6,000 rupaye bante hain. Apna asli RPM YouTube Studio ke Analytics me dekhein.
What is the difference between CPM and RPM?
CPM is what advertisers pay per 1,000 ad impressions, before YouTube’s share. RPM is what you, the creator, earn per 1,000 views of your videos after the share is taken out and across all views.
Do I get paid for every view?
No. Only views that generate ad revenue count. Views without ads, skipped ads and unmonetized content reduce the effective amount.
How much do Shorts pay?
Shorts usually earn less per view than long videos because they share revenue from a pool. Check the revenue for Shorts separately in YouTube Studio.
What are the YouTube monetization requirements?
YouTube requires a minimum number of subscribers plus either public watch hours or Shorts views, with a lower first tier for some features. The thresholds change, so read the current ones in YouTube Studio under Earn.
How do I find my RPM?
In YouTube Studio, open Analytics, go to the Revenue tab and read RPM for a date range. Compare several months.
Is YouTube income taxable?
Yes. It is income and has to be declared. Keep records of what you earn and ask an accountant how it should be reported.
