Everyone has typed a long message and then noticed the Caps Lock light was on. Or pasted a heading from a document and found it in all capitals. Retyping is a waste of time. A case converter changes the whole text in a click, and it also helps with the case styles programmers and writers use every day.

> **In short**
> - The [Case Converter](https://toolcloak.com/tools/text-case-converter) shows your text in **eight styles at once**: UPPERCASE, lowercase, Title Case, Sentence case, camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case and kebab-case.
> - Use **Sentence case** for body text and **Title Case** for headings. Use the programming styles to match the language you write in.
> - Everything happens in your browser. The text is not uploaded.
> - For proper headline rules, where small words stay lowercase, use the [Title Case Converter](https://toolcloak.com/tools/title-case-converter).

## The eight styles, side by side

Take the phrase “the quick brown fox”. This is how each style writes it:

| Style | Result | Used for |
| --- | --- | --- |
| UPPERCASE | THE QUICK BROWN FOX | Emphasis, warnings, short labels |
| lowercase | the quick brown fox | Casual text, email addresses, tags, tidying a messy paste |
| Title Case | The Quick Brown Fox | Headings, titles, names of things |
| Sentence case | The quick brown fox | Normal writing, many modern headings |
| camelCase | theQuickBrownFox | Variables and functions in JavaScript, Java, Swift |
| PascalCase | TheQuickBrownFox | Class names, React components |
| snake_case | the_quick_brown_fox | Python, Ruby, database columns, file names |
| kebab-case | the-quick-brown-fox | URLs, CSS class names, file names |

*The Case Converter shows all eight at once, each with its own copy button, so you can pick the one you need.*

## Fixing text typed in the wrong case

The classic job is a paragraph typed with Caps Lock on, or a column of names from a spreadsheet in capitals. Paste it in, copy the lowercase result, and then change only what needs to be capital. For ordinary writing, **Sentence case** is the closest to what you want, with one limit worth knowing about.

> **Sentence case here capitalizes the very first letter only:** In this tool, Sentence case makes the first letter of the whole text a capital and the rest lowercase. It does not capitalize the start of each new sentence after a full stop. For a long paragraph, convert it and then fix the first letter of each later sentence by hand. Names and the word “I” also need a capital, which no converter can know about.

**Rescuing a paragraph typed in capitals**

1. **Paste it in.** `PLEASE SEND THE REPORT BY FRIDAY. THANKS.`
2. **Copy Sentence case.** `Please send the report by friday. thanks.`
3. **Fix the leftovers.** Capital F in Friday, and a capital T after the full stop.
4. **Done.** `Please send the report by Friday. Thanks.`

*Conversion does most of the work, and a quick read-through catches the rest.*

## Title Case: the simple version and the proper version

The Case Converter’s Title Case capitalizes the first letter of **every** word and lowercases the rest, so “the lord of the rings” becomes “The Lord Of The Rings”. That is quick and fine for names and labels.

Headlines in books, newspapers and style guides usually keep small words such as “of”, “the”, “a” and “and” in lowercase unless they come first or last, so the same title reads “The Lord of the Rings”. The exact list varies by style guide. Some capitalize every word of four letters or more, others lowercase every preposition. For these rules, use the [Title Case Converter](https://toolcloak.com/tools/title-case-converter) instead.

**The same title, two ways**

| Every word capitalized | Small words lowercase |
| --- | --- |
| The Lord Of The Rings | The Lord of the Rings |
| Fast and consistent | The usual headline style |
| Fine for labels and names | First and last word always capital |
| Looks heavy in a headline | Use the Title Case Converter for this |

*If a style guide matters to your editor or teacher, check which one it follows.*

## Sentence case or Title Case for headings?

Both are correct, and the choice is a matter of style. Title Case looks formal and is common in book titles and traditional newspapers. Sentence case reads more softly and is widely used in apps, websites and modern articles. The most important rule is to pick one and use it everywhere on the same page or document.

## camelCase, snake_case and friends for code

Programming languages cannot have spaces inside a name, so people join the words in a set pattern. The pattern is mostly a habit of each language:

- **camelCase** starts lowercase and capitalizes each later word, as in `userName`. Standard for JavaScript, Java and Swift variables.
- **PascalCase** capitalizes every word, as in `UserName`. Used for classes and React components.
- **snake_case** joins words with underscores, as in `user_name`. Python, Ruby and most database column names.
- **kebab-case** joins words with hyphens, as in `user-name`. Common in URLs, CSS classes and file names, and it is the usual choice for web addresses. For a ready-made URL slug, the [Slug Generator](https://toolcloak.com/tools/slug-generator) also removes punctuation.

> **What the code styles expect:** The camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case and kebab-case results are built from words separated by spaces. Punctuation stays where it is, so remove commas and other symbols first. Text that is already in snake_case or camelCase will not be split into words again. Write it with spaces, then convert.

## Languages and special letters

- **Hindi and other scripts without capitals.** Devanagari, Tamil, Bengali and many other scripts have no uppercase or lowercase, so changing the case leaves them as they are. Mixed Hindi and English text only changes the English part.
- **Accented letters.** Words that start with an accented letter, such as “élan”, may not capitalize correctly in Title Case. Check them after converting.
- **Special letters.** In some languages, capital and small forms behave differently. German “ß”, for example, becomes “SS” in capitals. Check results for names in those languages.

## Tidy the text before and after

Pasted text often carries extra baggage that no case change will fix. Clear stray spaces and blank lines with the [Whitespace Cleaner](https://toolcloak.com/tools/whitespace-cleaner), then convert the case, and finally check the length with the [Word Counter](https://toolcloak.com/tools/word-counter). The guide to [word and character limits](https://toolcloak.com/articles/how-long-is-long-enough-a-field-guide-to-word-and-character-limits) shows the limits that matter for posts, titles and descriptions.

## Private by design

Whether it is an email draft, a customer list or a piece of code, the text is converted in your browser. It is not sent to a server, and nothing needs to be saved or signed in.

## Frequently asked questions

### How do I change text from uppercase to lowercase?

Paste the text into the Case Converter, press Convert All Cases and copy the lowercase result. All eight styles are shown at once, so you can also copy a different one.

### How do I capitalize the first letter of every word?

Use the Title Case result. It capitalizes the first letter of every word and makes the rest lowercase. For headlines where small words like of and the stay lowercase, use the Title Case Converter tool.

### uppercase ko lowercase mein kaise badle?

Case Converter mein text paste kijiye, Convert All Cases dabaiye aur lowercase wala result copy kar lijiye. Ek hi baar mein UPPERCASE, Title Case, Sentence case aur camelCase jaise saare style dikh jate hain.

### What is the difference between title case and sentence case?

Title Case capitalizes the main words of a heading, while Sentence case capitalizes only the first word and proper names, like a normal sentence. Both are correct. Pick one and use it throughout a document.

### What is the difference between camelCase and snake_case?

camelCase joins words and capitalizes each later word, as in userName. snake_case puts underscores between lowercase words, as in user_name. The choice follows the programming language or database you use.

### Does Sentence case capitalize every sentence?

No. In this converter, it capitalizes only the first letter of the whole text and lowercases the rest. For a long paragraph, fix the first letter of later sentences yourself after converting.

### Does the case converter work for Hindi text?

Hindi, written in Devanagari, has no upper or lower case, so the text stays as it is. In a mixed Hindi and English sentence, only the English letters change.

### Is it safe to paste my text into an online case converter?

It is safest when the conversion happens on your device. The Case Converter on Toolcloak works in your browser, so what you paste is not uploaded to a server.
